Sir: Mr. Kallol. Baithiye Sir. [Sit down]

Me: Thank you, Sir. [Now, he started reading my answer sheet in front of me and with a smiling face]

Sir: Why your score in graduation is so poor?

I told the reason but, he was not satisfied.
Sir: So, you know Hypertext Preprocessor [PHP]?
Me: Yes sir, actually I have done my minor project in PHP and MySQL.

Sir: And, what about minor project?

And I had to explain again while showing the snapshots of my project. And we discussed about jsp and php. He asked some codes of PHP. Some basic queries from SQL.
Sir: Have you remembered C [with a smiling face]?

Sir: Good, good.
Me: Which degree you prefer the most, B.Tech, MCA or M,Tech?
Sir: Quality matters, if we get a B.Sc student with that quality we will take him.

All the best!

Hello!

I am Abhinav Mukherjee from st. Thomas' college of Engineering and Technology. My department is Electronics and Communication.

This is my first experience of a campus recruitment process!

Cognizant visited our campus on 6th January, 2011.

Out of 255 eligible candidates 219 cleared the first round (written test). Finally 175 were selected as finalist after the interview.

Written Test:

This consisted of 2 papers

1. Verbal Ability (25 marks 30 mins)

This consisted of 2 comprehension passages, choosing the grammatically correct sentences, syllogisms and finding the odd in a group. The question patterns were repetitve. My suggesstion would be to try and attempt the passages correctly.

2. Logical Resoning (30 marks 30 mins)

This section was not very easy. I remember one puzzle based on blood relation which I couldn't do. This puzzle was not of the type which you will readily find in R.S Aggarwal. The rest consisted of the type coding-decoding, simple puzzles on sitting arrangement and data sufficiency. The last question was on finding out various pecentage based on data provided in two tables. Sincerely solving problems from R.S aggarwal will suffice.

During the test we were provided a form where we had to fill in the required details. Separate time was provided for this.

After about 1 hour 15 mins the result of the test was declared and I was through. Then I had to sit for more than 3 long hours when I was called for my Interview at about 5.30 pm.

Me: May I come in sir?
Int: Yes come in
 Me: Good Evening sir
Int: Good Evening! Please take your seat.
Me: Thank you sir. (He was about 45. He was neither smiling nor very serious.)
Int: Is this your first interview?
Me: Yes sir.
Int: So, where is your school located?
Me: Told
Int: And your house?
Me: Told (He seemed to know the place and so he asked me in some details)
Int: In which area are you comfortable?

Me: 'C' and Basic Electronics
Int: While programming which one will you prefer array or pointer?

Me: Sir, Pointer
Int: Why?

Me: Told (Pointers works with addresses and bla bla bla. He was busy with his own work)

Int: How do you initialize and array?

Me: Told
Int: Can you tell me what is the difference between a structure and a union?

Me: Told
Int: Are you involved in any project work?

Me: Told and described somewhat
Int: OK Abhinav tell me 3 points why I will hire you and 3 points for which I will not hire you?

Me: Sir, I am hardworking, sincere and have the ability to accept challenges so you can definitely hire me. If I don't get selected, I will think that something must have gone wrong in my interview process and not in my aptitude level since I have already cleared the written round. In that case I will try to improve my body language, communication skills and my confidence level.

Int: Ok, Abhinav! I'm done. Glad to meet you. (And he shook hands with me)
Me: Thank you sir (And I walked out quietly)

This was my interview process. It was about 10-12 mins. I was pretty sure I will get through.
Next day when results were announced I was delighted to here my name announced as this was my first job.

CTS Placement Papers-12

Hi Friends,

This is debasis from B.P.Poddr Institute Of Management & Technology. CTS had visited our college on 13th January, 2011. So I'm sharing a bit of my experience with you.

The events of the day were like this.

1) A ppt by jonal hr head of CTS at 9 am.
2) Aptitute test consisting of 35 non verbal questions 35 mins were provided for this part (R.S Agarwal verbal-non verbal book is enough for this one) and 30 verbal questions for which 30 mins were alloted(barrons or R.S.Aggarwal verbal book is good enough. English was a bit tough acording to me. But if you are preparing for CAT then it would not be a matter of concern. You will be given a form to be filled up during this time.

It contains questions like strenghts & weaknessesYour hobbies, why CTS what qualities you have to join the it industry. Prepare this question before going in the interviewer will be watching all this after the aptitude test 251 people were selected out of . 359 people who sat for the aptitute test. My name was there.

3) Interview (Technical+HR)

I entered the interviewing hall at near about 7.30 pm
Me: Good evening sir, may I have the seat? (manners & showing respect do count a lot over here)
Int: Yeah, have the seat. (he had an age of 40-45 was quite serious always have a little bit of smile on your face. It shows that you are not nervous.
Int: So you have done a summer training isn't it?
Me: Yes sir, I did a training from BSNL on telecommunication and also from microsoft it academy on asp.net
Int: So what were you taught in your BSNL training?
Me: We were actually taught about the working of optical fibre will broadband. etc etc
Int: So what is a broadband?(and he also asked a lot of question regarding this ne)
Me: I told (although I had little knowledge on this one. But still I told everything I knew about it. Just tell confidently)
Int: Are you sure? (he always tried to mis guide me. But never move away from your point)
Me: Yes Sir
Interviewer: Derive a nor gate using two and gate (This is a confidence-breaker question making "nor" with two "and" is not possible. He just wants to check weather you crumble under pressure or not)
Me: Initially I told yes. I will try but after 2 mins of trying I told Sorry sir, but I am not able to do this.
Int: What is the job of "void" in C?

Me: I told.
Int: What will occur if we dont write main() in C.
Me: Compiler error will occur
Int: What type of compiller error
Me: Pardon me sir, but I cant remember it right now
Int: What is function overloading in C?
Me: Actually this was again a confidence breaker question as beacause function overloading was not there in C. It was in C++ or Java. Which were in our ECE syllabus. But still I told whatever I knew about it.
Int: Look debasis, your communication skill is very good. But technical knowledge is quite low.
Me: This was again done to break my confidence. Although I had a avg cgpa was below 7.0 but still I knew that my interview questions correctly.
Me: May be sir that I am lagging in some technical parts. I can definitely work on them & cope up very quickly. I am no less than any other person over here. I am dying to get into Cognizant.
Int: Suppose you were in my chair & you had two candidates infront of you. One is technically very sound the other one is potential like you are but technically weak. Whom you would have selected.
Me: I would have selected both of them
Int: Ok thank you. Do you have any questions (always ask questions this shows your eagerness to know. But don't ask foolish questions like "how was my interview" this looks unprofesional)
Me: I asked "how the recent policies of barrack obama will be affecting the Indian it industry"?
Int: He told, any other question?
Me: No Sir.
Int: Thank you. you may leave.
Me: Thanks a lot sir, have a nice day
Int: You too.
Out of 251 candidates who appeared for the interview 179 were selected & my name was there in the list.
Wish you all the best!
Hope to see you soon in Cognizant.

CTS Placement Papers - 10

Dear Friends,

Hi I just wrote the CTS test paper at Cochin. This company tests students eqally and doesnot have any technical questions in its priliminary stage, as I felt glad because I am from Instrumentation background.

Here is my experience:

There were 2 papers separately given. The first one was analytical reasoning and the othe paper was English. The test was of 55 minutes total. Before these papers are given we were provided with a form to fill up which included "write your software orientation","your strength and weaknesses" so I urge you all to better be prepared for these things before the exam as they are examined in the end when you qualify the written paper.

Then the first paper of reasoning was given which had questions from syllolisms (easy), find the odd figure out (I found them tough, don't take them lightly), find the next figure, statement and conclusion questions.

There were statement and conclusion questions of two forms.
Type-1 statement 1: All boys are good. 2: Some good are girls. Then we need to find the correct conclusion.

Type-2 statement: When I take the umbrella and go out it rains.
conclusions: a) It rains. b) I do not go out. c) It does not rain. d) I go out.

Answer options: A) ab and cd B) da and bc C) ac and bd D) None follow.
Answer: (b)

Then there was this second section of English. It had 8 questions of sentence correction and two lengthy paragraphs which had 5 questions each. Then there were 4 questions from jumbled sentences. We were asked to form a meaningful paragraph out of it. It was time consuming. Practice reading fast as paragraphs consumed time.

Time is the most important factor in this test. So friends do take note of time. I am waiting for my results as they'll b declared tommorow. Please pray for me.

Wish you all good luck. Belive in God
Any querries do mail me @ piyushsinhaa@gmail.com

CTS Placement Papers -8

Hi Friends,

This is Shyamananda Sarkar from GCELT. Cognizant visited our college on 19th January. With us there was GCECT also to sit for the selection procedure. I gonna share my experience with you.
Firstly, we were told to come college within 8:30 am. As registration purpose. Then after waiting for about 30-35 minutes it was the time for PPT which was given by a HR of CTS, I don't know who he was but atleast not Nilangsu Ghosal.
Any way he told about the company bla..bla...bla.
After about 45-50 minutes of PPT our main selection procedure started.
It was consisted of 2 parts:

1) Aptitude Test

2) Technical+HR Interview.

1) The aptitude section was of 2 sections.

a) Logical reasoning: 30 marks, questions were very easy, just need to practice little bit from R.S Aggarwal and the foremost needy thing is to be cool and try to solve as soon as possible.
There was no quantitive part.

b) Verval: Two passage one was very easy and another one was long but if you can manage time for all other part you'll surely be able to answer the questions from that passage.

Cut-off was about around 30-35 % in English and 50 % for logical.
Any way total around 180-185 students sat for the exam.
From that 57 GCELT and 45 GCECT students were selected for the next round. Any way there were 10 panels and I was selected for 6th panel and my interview time was 2:50 pm any way I was very tensed but ultimately around 5:10pm I was called for interview.
The person who take my interview was a non-bengali and very cool and was in fancy mood.
My interview was like the following.
Me: Good Afternoon sir.
Int: Good Afternoon. pls have a sit.
Me: Thank you sir.
Int: So, sarkar, will you be able work in Mumbai?
Me: (I was totally shocked, for this question, that too at the very beginning) offcourse sir, I can adjust any where in the world, after all I'm going to join a MNC.
Int: Ok, so Sarkar tum bara sarkar yeah chhota sarkar?
Me: (I thought if I ans in Hindi or any others language rathar than English I may not get chance) no sir, my name only just sarkar and I'm also not like that. I also about the history of our title but a very few.
Int: (He smiled) so who changed surname?
Me: Told
Int: What does you father do?
Me: Told
Int: Where do u father and grandfather live?
Int: What do you in computer domain.
Me: I told Java and Dbms
(but I surprised he didn't ask me not even a single question from Java)
Int: Do you know C?
Me: Yes sir.
Int: So write a simple C code for the output of (a-b)^2. I was so lucky to have this.
Me: I did it promptly
Int: Then he gave me to write the sql query for joining two table as directed by him.
Me: I also did it
Int: Very good.
Then he asked what are you doing in 4th year project.

Me: Told
Int: Then he asked will u be able to work in testing dept. from the very beginning?
Me: Told bla...bla..

Then he told that's all have you any question?
I asked about the Cognizant 2.0
He told.

Then I also asked about the mission Cognizant do for orphans in India.

He told.
That was all of my interview.

It was around 15 minutes.

The result was declared on the next day. I got selected, thank God. it was really impossible for me to crack without my parents, elder sister and as well as my near and dear friends of school and college. I will be always with them.

Totaly 63 got selected. 31 from our college and 32 from ceramic.

I shall wait for the interview results. Thanks!
That's all about apti part.

CTS Placement Paper - 5

Hello Friends,
M Gareema Bhandari from Orient group of Institutes Bhopal. CTS was the first company in our Institute. i.e on 14th and 15th January 2011.
CTS process was in 2 steps
Written test
* Reasoning section
* Verbal section
Interview:
Both HR and Technical were taken together as 1 round.
Written
Reasoning section: All the questions of syllogism were asked. Tricky questions of syllogism were asked in this our english ability is also checked 30 questions were their. For half an hour.

Verbal section: In verbal section simple basic grammar skills were checked. No antonym or synonym were asked. Only the person with, clear concept of english grammar can attempt. All the questions correctly.

Please do practice the questions of similar relations. Verbal was also for 30 minutes 30 questions.
Both the papers were given seperately for 30-30 minutes.
Interview
My interview was the longest in my pannel. For everyone it was 20 to 25 mins mine was 30 mins.
My technical is not that strong. But I have very good communication skills. Thus, I went in very confidently. He asked me. To tell him about myself. Seriously this is the answer when you can actually drive your interview. I spoke so elligently that he was very impressed.
Than he asked me some technical questions I think 3 he asked of which I gave none answer. But I convince dhim by saying that." sir its not luck I dont know the answer. Yesterday when result was announce. My neighbours and relatives were all at ma room and I was already nervous and I didn't got the time to browse through ma notes"
He smilled at me then I said that sir ma technical is not dat good but if I will revise ma notes than definitely I can handle the questions.
So, he then stated asking me situational questions some of tham are
(1) Say you and your best friend made a project but it was rejected by the customer. You know that it was becuse your friend made a mistake in the project. Now, your boss is asking you to tell him who made the mistake. Will you tell your boss about the mistake done by your friend?

(2) Your boss gave you a project. To be done in 10 day. But it is impossible for you to complete it in 10 day. What will you do?
(3) Your friends birthday is let us say in January 1989 but you don't know your frrends date and day. How can you calculate it. By just asking him 1 questions. You cannot ask him directly his b"day?
Like this 9 situational questions were asked to me. I gave all the answers very confidently. With possitive attitude and very good communication skills.
He even asked me technical questions practically. like, if there is a car say"CIVIC" than what will be the object and what will be the function and what will be the class.
I just spoke out whatever was cuming into ma mind. Because i'm not good in technical. But I said with confidence after 30 minutes he asked me do you have any questions to asked
I asked him 2 questions about there logo "GO GREEN" and "HOW SOCIALLY INTACT IS CTS"
after asking the questions
He said that "Gareema you have a very impressive approach have a nice day"
I was selected in CTS. So, the conclusion is, be confident. Written is very easy and one should be very confident in front of the HR.
All the very best!

I am very happy that I'm placed in my dream company, Cognizant. Cognizant came to my college for recruitment on January 13th, 2011 (Written Test, Technical & HR). I wanna share my experiance to FW users as it might help them to figure out what Cognizant's selection process actually is.

Int: What is Weak Entity Set?
Me: Again I satisfied him with my answer.
Int: Now coming to networking what is the difference between a switch & a bridge?
Me: (This is a shocker for me as I didn't expect a question from networking because I mentioned C & Java as s/w orientation in the form) I tried to say something & went on saying bla bla bla.
Int: No,this is not correct
Me: Sir, actually I'm not in touch with networking because I studied it in 5th semester & after that I'm not in touch with it.
Int: But I will try to touch all the subjects & you will have to give atleast one correct answer from that subject otherwise I will ask questions from dat subject.
Me: Ok sir.
Int: What is packet switch routing & circuit switch routing?
Me: (after a bit of pause & thinking) No sir, I cann't remember it right now.

Int: (with a smile) I didn't ask you that ok tell me what is deadlock?
Me: I told & satisfied him.
Int: How you can detect deadlock?
Me: I told dat by using RAG, WFG & by some Deadlock detection algorithm.
Int: What is RAG & WFG?
Me: Resource Allocation Graph & Wait for Graph.
Int: What are the differences between them?
Me: I told that RAG involves Resource but WFG don't involves Resources it only involves processes & I also draw an eg. of both RAG & WFG.
Int: Are you sure in WFG there is no resource?
Me: Yes sir.
Int: No it's not correct. (he was checking my confidence)
Me: Sir, as far as I know there is no resource in WFG.
Int: Ok, I think i'm done. Do you have any questions?
Me: Yes sir, What are the improvements I have to make to be successful in the organisation?
Int: I cann't tell you that seeing you such a short period. But as a fresher you must have the mentality to learn, effective communication skills & good team work capability.
Me: Ok sir & one more what are the expectations of the company from me as a fresher?
Int: As I already told mentality to learn, communication skill & team work capability.
Me: Yes sir, according to me i'm a quick learner & good team man & I also have effective communication skills. So I think I will be successful. I have some problem in some subjects like networking because I'm not in touch with these subjects recently. But I have full command & confidence in my subject C & Java etc.
Int: Ok, thank you.
Me: Thank you sir.
Our result was announced on the evening of 15/01/2011 as Infosys was sharing 0 slot with Cognizant.

Out of 251 candidates who appeared for the interview 179 were selected & my name was there in the list.

Wish you all the best!

Hope to see you soon in Cognizant.

CTS Placement Paper -2

Hello Friends,
This is DHIVYA recently i attended the cts aptitude test on 30 jan '11. At the beginning they give a paper called "DATA SHEET" in which u have to fill all details like NAME ; PERSONAL INFORMATION ; ACADEMIC DETAILS ; STRENGTH WEAKNESS ; SOFTWARE PROFESIONAL ; SHORT TERM AND LONG TERM PLAN ; EXPECTATIONS FROM CTS . They just give only 10-15 min to fill all these details suddenly without telling the time duration they ask us to start writing the exm so be careful we have to write as fast as we can... after completing the exm we can write these fill up form... as i got 10 min time after completing my exm so i used my time by writing fill up form.

Paper was easy it contains the following pattern.

* Analytical Section (30 questions, 30 minutes)
Q(1) : Choose the different figure
Q(2-3) : Logic
Q(4-5) : Logic
Q(6-7) : Logic
Q(8-9) : Logic
Q(10-13) : Puzzle
Q(14-17) : Encoding & Decoding
Q(18-21) : Figure Sequence
Q(22-24) : Choose the similar figure
Q(25-28) : Data Intrepretation
Q(29-30) : Logic

* Verbal Section (25 questions, 20 minutes) (15) , (10)
Q(31-32) : Identify correct sentence
Q(33-37) : Reading Comprehension I
Q(37-42) : Reading Comprehension II
Q(43) : Identify the correct sentence
Q(44-46) : Identify the incorrect sentence
Q(47-51) : Sentence re-arrangement
Q(52) : Identify the correct sentence
Q(53-55) : Identify the incorrect sentence

This blue print is the same as how they asked in exam... And i would like to give some tips regarding the exam... first to attend encoding and decoding ; figure sequence ; similar figure ; logical deductions and connectives ;correct incorrect sentence and then to passage finally end the exm with interpretation... as bcoz interpretation questions are very tough and we could not able to solve as the calculations to be done are more.. so what i suggest u to attend it at last... This is the way i followed in my exam where i saved 10 min time...
Books: R.S.AGGARWAL (VERBAL AND NON VERBAL)
TIME BOOK For LOGICAL CONNECTIVES
These two books are more than enough to study for clearing the exam.
And at one week later i got mail stating i cleared Aptitude and asked me to come for Technical in MEPZ on 5 FEB 2011 at 11.00 A.M.
To my surprise there was GD round... All batch consists of 10 members... My HR was very Cool ... He gave comfort by talking in general and he also told that its enough of talking atleast one line but to talk bravely and loudly this was his criteria for selecting candidates but other HR insisted on GRAMMATICAL USAGE it completely depends upon each HR ... and to our surprise again he asked us as each and every person can talk their own topic... And we all got cleared in our Batch.

Next is TECHNICAL HR ... I attended where at the beginning he asked generally about my college and my family... and
INT : he asked why my 10 , 12 , UG was reduced by 1 % ...
ME : I explained
INT : he was satisfied .... He then asked Why u came for IT field as u where from E.C.E. background...
ME : I explained... He asked me did u attend any Core Company ... I said attended got selected also....
INT : Asked why u didnt proceed with that company...
ME : I explained.
INT :He started asking what all languages (S/W) u knw...
ME : Told (He cross checked the DATA SHEET) I told i knw DATA STRUCTURES also ...
INT : He told good.. Started asking questions from that...
INT : wat is bubble sort
ME : explained
INT : quick sort , Linked list types and explain..
ME : explained
INT : wat is other name for queue and stack
ME : explained
INT :asked to draw and explain Circular linked list
ME: explained
INT : asked to write prog
ME : i told confidently i dont knw prog as i ididnt prepare for it but i knw all the logics...
INT : He said ok ! asked to explain Stack and Queue.
ME : explained
INT: finally told nice to meet u ... Thank u and asked me to wait for results.
ME : thank u Sir.
After a long gap of 1 hour my Results came "I GOT SELECTED" ... After 5 mins they asked me to attend THE FINAL ROUND i.e., HR ROUND....
HR : he greeted me
ME : me too
HR : Asked me to show my certificates of 10 ,12 UG (This is nothing but to cross check the %)
ME : showed

CTS Placement paper-1

Hi Everyone,

Mine was a morning 7:45 batch. Around 150 were there in my batch. There were more batches on the same day so i'm not sure about the total number of students who all attended that day. The paper was conducted by MERITRACK and they said they would announce the result on this Tuesday that is on 21st September on CTS website.

When i started giving test i was really amazed, the pattern had completely changed. There were only 50 questions in all and two sections Verbal and Analytical. The paper was damn easy. This was my 12th interview so was bit nervous asusual. I can give you an idea on how the paper was but i'm sorry I can’t remember any questions.

1.) Verbal Section

There were questions like

A) Two huge passages were given and there were 5 questions for each passage. I would recommend you to attempt these passages at the end.

B) Around 5-6 questions on finding which part of the sentence had an error.EX-

He thought (a)/he might (b)/not be able (c)/to do a job (d)

We had to find which part of the sentence had errors.

C) Around 5-6 questions on arranging sentences in the order in which they might have occurred.EX-

a) The third calls for high aces to channel updrafts.

b) Some paleontologists are of the opinion that the pterosaurs jumped from s dropped from trees or perhaps rose into the light winds from the crests of waves in order to become airborne.

c) The second hypothesis seems unlikely because large pterosaurs could not have landed in trees without damaging their wings.

d) Each theory has its associated difficulties.

e) The first makes a wrong assumption that the pterosaurs hind feet resembled a bat's and could serve as hooks by which the animal could hang in preparation for flight.

OPTIONS

1) a,e,d,b,c

2)b,d,e,c,a

3)d,a,e,c,b

4)a,b,e,d,c

D) Around 5-6 questions on finding the wrong sentence from a set of given sentences.

2) Analytical Part

This part to my amazement didn't have anything from R.S Aggarwal quantitative aptitude. There we not even a single formal question from percentages or ratio proportions or ages anything u could ever imagine the whole paper was kind of non verbal reasoning. The questions were like

a) Around 4-5 questions were like finding the odd figure out of given figures. Very Very Simple.

b) Around 4-5 questions were like three figures were given and we had to find the fourth one based on some pattern.(Was a bit tough)

c) I had some login problem in my system before beginning the test, so i was sitting idle for 15 mins in the beginning and at that time, i was just gazing at the systems of students who were giving the test. Many of them had a question based on pie chart. A pie chart was given and 5-6 questions were based the pie chart.

On the other hand when i started giving test i had a question based on a table. I had to take some percentages based on the given data. I didn’t get any questions from pie charts.

d) Some 5-6 questions based on syllogism. Eg: Some dogs are cats. All cats are cows.

e) Around 5-6 question were based on logic like if it rains, then he will dance.(These questions were in the form of data sufficiency.

This is all i can remember. Make sure you prepare from R.S Aggarwal Verbal and Non Verbal reasoning very thoroughly. Be very calm and take the paper very carefully because it full of logical questions, you need to have a free mind while giving the test. I'm still waiting for the results that are to be announced on 21st September on www.congnizant.com and i'm really very very scared. Please do pray for me.

Most important All the best may God be with you all..

Hope this article helps.

Take care all.

Next the interview first the interviewer greeting me with a warm handshake. then he asked this questions.

Why CSE?

what are the subjects you read last semester?

What is deletion anomaly?

what is lock? how many lock you ever heard?

where you use read lock and shared lock?

what is deadlock?

what is deadlock presentation?

tell me some procedure to detect deadlock.

what is distributed deadlock?

what are functions of local distributed and global distributed manager?

how you solve deadlock in distributed system?

then he asked do you know C? i answered yes then he asked how well like dbms or more than that? i answered like C. then he asked four more questions

from C.

why CTS?

why should I recruit you?

Tell me about yourself. etc

one thing you should remember that you don't tell that you are preparing for CAT,MAT,GRE or any other exams. In interview room you keep yourself be cool, confident, fluent in English, smile on your face.Don't act like a over smart.CTS declared the name of student who got the job on 19th Jan '11. 244 students got the jobs and i was one of them.

Cognizant Campus Recruitment Process on 25.02.2011

Eligibility Criteria: 60% throughout (X, XII, UG/PG)

No year Gap

Only 2011 Pass out

Venue: FIEM, Sonarpur (it was not an on Campus Process)

Reporting Time: 8:00 am

My experience

I was 15 mins late, but it did not create any issue

An auditorium sought of place was given to us so that it can accommodate at least 400 students, 452 were eligible. Cognizant came at around 9am, and when I saw the entire team I was simply stunned, more than 35 people came, out of which 33 were interviewer (I came to know about them before the interview). The T.P.O of the FIEM introduced Mr. N Ghosal, the HR Manager of Cognizant.

Mr. N Ghosal, introduced himself and started off with the ppt session, it was damn good and inspiring

After 30-45 mins of ppt session we were asked to get ready for the Aptitude test, a consultancy named Meritrake came in with a team of more than 20 people and divided the entire group of students into several rooms, they had taken every possible measure so that no unfair means occur.

A form (data sheet) was given to fill-up, followed by two question papers (2-sections)

Total 55 questions were there, 60 mins time, 2 sections, 1-logical and quantitative 2-Based on English, no Negative marking but sectional cut-offs were there.

Aptitude result was declared by 1.30 pm, and panels were allotted to the selected candidates, there were 33 panels, and 5-6 students were allotted to each

I was in panel 1.

The interview session began, 1:1 interview, Technical and HR was combined, and the single man that was sitting on the other side was more than enough to make us realize that he was from CTS and the questions won’t be as smooth as we were thinking

I was waiting for my turn to come; seriously, I was quite tensed and nervous though my face did not reflect that. At that moment of time I was completely blank, I could not even remember the syntax for inheritance in C++, anyways I had to wait till 5.30pm, as the interviewer was taking a lot of time with a single candidate, so you can imagine how sweet the interview session could be, sitting with the interviewer for than 30mins, minimum, gradually I started to make up my mind that I have to face the person on the other side of the desk, and if I get tensed then everything would be in a mess, actually I was not tensed, neither was i nervous, it was a different feeling, which you can only feel when your waiting outside that ROOM.

When my name was called, it was near about 5.40pm

Me : Sir, may I come in

X: yah, sure (he had a smiling face)

Me: Good Afternoon sir (I was standing with my bag on one shoulder, and a file in my hand)

X: yah, have your seat, be comfortable

(I took my seat, kept my bag on the floor, and the file on my lap)

X: (with a smile on his face) so you are Shyam, from JISCE?

Me: yes sir

X: (he called out two names, they were also from my college and asked me) who is the topper?

Me: sir all are unique in their own way, but if you talk about academics I have topped the last 5 semesters

X: so you are the topper? (smiled again)

Me: yes sir till the 5th semester

X: show me your certificates, class X and XII (I gave him the original), make sure that you put back all the certificates safely

(He started calculating my percentages, one by one) and said all are perfect

X: you have passed out class XII from CBSE? I am also from CBSE

Me: which school sir?

X: Kendriya Vidyalay, Alipore, (smiled) I have passed out class 10 in 2000, so where do you stay?

Me: Naihati

X: hmm nice place, so what are your hobbies Shyam?

Me: (told) (and he continued writing everything in his evaluation sheet)

X: (going through the data sheet that I have filled up in the morning) you like data structure

Me: yes sir, we had DS in our 3rd sem

X: ok (he gave a blank A4 sheet and wrote an array of 6 elements) sort the array

Me: which technique sir?

X: anything of your choice

Me: (after sorting the array by Bubble sorting technique) sir done

X: ok let me see (going through my code) no this will not work!! (returned the paper back to me)

Me: (surprisingly) why sir? (I went through my code,….but couldn’t find any mistakes) (Gave it back to him) sir it will work

X: (again going through my code) no it won’t, ok let us do a dry run

Me: (eagerly waiting for him to point out my mistake) yes sir

X: oh! My mistake, I didn’t notice the other loop (he overlooked my outer loop) it will work (gave a positive smile)

X: Can you tell me its time complexity?

Me: (told, a complete wrong guess, I was not sure) (he did not say anything)

X: what projects have you done?

Me: (told)

X: do you know Linked lists?

Me: yes sir

X: ok, have you heard of circular, doubly, circular-doubly linked lists?

Me: yah sir, sure

X: how can I search an element from the linked list? (Passed that paper to me again)

Me: shall I write the code?

X: your choice, I just need to understand

Me: (I wrote the code, defined a structure for linear linked list, and defined a function for searching the element) ( I was taking a bit time and I looked up once to see what was he doing)

X: take your time (gave a pleasant smile)

(I continued with my ‘searching’ function)

(After completing, I looked up again, found him busy writing something, so I started checking my code, if there are some errors)

Me: sir I have done it

X: oh , let me have a look (going through my code) yah good

X: what changes would you make if I ask you to do the same for doubly linked list?

Me: (made the changes)

X: (with a impressive smile) your code is ok but it could have been much simpler. What is recursion?

Me: (told)

X: write down a recursive function to print the fibonacci series in Java

Me: (feeling a bit tensed, started off)

(Finished writing the code, I didn’t print the a and b as 0 in the beginning, I took a=-1 and b=1, and gave him the sheet back) sir done.

X: (checked out my code) why did you take a= -1 and b=1?

Me: (explained him)

X: (he looked impressed) (he took the paper back, wrote a small code snippet) what will be output of the following? (The code was written in C++, a bit tricky)

Me: (I started solving it, wrote few steps) (suddenly he took back the paper and said)

X: what is string?

Me: (answered him)

X: how can you copy one string in another?

Me: (I told him about the strcpy function)

X: without strcpy?

Me: bla bla…. (could not answer properly)

X: ok can you relocate outside Kolkata?

Me: (butterflies in my stomach) YES ! sir

X: ok last question I’ll ask you, if you can answer you are through

(I was excited)

X: ( wrote 3 statements: x=1+2+3; y=”1”+2+3; z=2+4+”6”;) if I write System.out.println(x) and in the same way SOP for y and z what will be the output?

Me: x=6; y=123 (as ‘+’ will act as a concatenation operator), and z= (he took back the paper)

X: you are through, you can go

Me: Thank you sir

(I saw him writing the marks, he gave me 9/10) ( before getting in I heard, that, 6 is the cut-off, so any one getting 6 will get the job)

Came out of the room, I was quite satisfied and eagerly waiting for the result

They announced the result around 7.30pm,

And they gave me the offer letter.
